Athletic: 1945 - Won the under 15 and under 18 open University competition in the Discuss (at 15 years old). Set a new discus record. 1946 – Won 1st place in both the Discus and Shot Put, set new records in both events. 1947 – Won 1st place in Discus, breaking his own record set one year earlier. 1948 – Wins 1st place in Discus and Shot Put, once again breaking records in both events. 1949 – Set the Cuban National Record in the Hammer Throw. The record had stood since 1932. 1950 - Competed in the Central American Olympics held in guatemala where he finished in 3rd place (Bronze). 1951 – Selected Outstanding Athlete in Track and Field. 1949-52 - Cuban National Champion in the Hammer Throw. Participated also in shooting competitions, winning several times in pigeon and skeet competition in Oriente and La Habana. Belonged to the Club de cazadores de Santiago y del Cerro.
Professional and Personal: 1952 - Graduated from the University of Havana with a degree in agronomical engineering 1959-60 – President of the “Asociacion Nacional de Cosecheros de Arroz” 1994- Alvaro Reynoso Award given by Colegio Nacional de Ingenieros Agronomos Y Azucareros for Professional Accomplishment Founding member of MRR, Movement for Revolutionary Recovery, whose basic principles were to fight Communism and Totalitarianism by returning democracy to Cuba. Active member of La Agrupación Católica.
He lives with his wife Rosa and has 7 daughters - Rosa Elia, Amada Maria, Maria del Carmen, Julieta, Maria Eugenia, Teresita and Beatriz. He also has 11 grandchildren.
